Caravans

The caravan sector is diverse and complex, employing multiple skills – the management, operational and technical requirements of holiday and home parks as well as caravan manufacture, repair, and retail. Changes within the market and regulatory framework of this £5b sector necessitate increased professionalism, skills training and qualification.

The caravan business is booming, with growing numbers of people buying and holidaying in caravans. SkillsActive works with the industry to ensure that the training needs and skills of the staff, volunteers and seasonal workers matches the requirements of such a fast-growing industry.

Our role

The caravan sector is represented by the strong alliance that has been formed between SkillsActive and CITO (Caravan Industry Training), to ensure that the sector training needs are addressed and more importantly that the needs are not overlooked in the allocation of government and devolved administration funding.

SkillsActive and CITO work together to lead the sector’s drive for better quality, better business and best value through skills.

Examples of SkillsActive’s work with the caravan sector:

  • Sponsorship of awards in recognition of the work of caravan engineers;
  • Partnership with the caravan sector produced new standards in caravan siting, including a newly improved qualification that is supported by sector employees;
  • Introduction of UK-wide generic standards specifically for operational services and leisure management.

“If we don’t invest in our staff, how can they be expected to meet our customers’ needs? Caravans and the skills to keep them in peak condition are developing all the time.”
Rob Woodward, workshops manager Chelston Service Centre
